[Agora Object] A 1174: Slab Fragment from Stage Front

Upper left corner preserved in two joining fragments. In top are traces of iron clamps, one to tie this slab to its backer, one to secure it to the background of a marble herm head. (In the case of the ... August 1946 ... In top are traces of iron clamps, one to tie this slab to its backer, one to secure it to the background of a marble herm head. (In the case of the second clamp the original had split the slab and had to be replaces with a longer iron.) This slab was set between herms of the type represented by S 1213 (ΩΔ 218).

Wall fragment from just below rim. Narrow reserved band on inside. Glaze abraded in lower right. Max. dim. 0.085. At the far right is Hermes (face, right shoulder, end of kerykeion) standing frontally, ... Late 5th century B.C ... A kerykeion is drawn on the side of the herm. ... Below, meat on a spit above a flaming altar (a little bit of the spit appears at the right break). ... Dilute glaze: hair.
