Although this filling dates into the last quarter of the 3rd c., according to the lamp types, it contains some notably earlier material, such as the moulded-ring kantharos of early type P 11206 and the bowl 11208. |
Grave 2 in notebook. The burial was destroyed by the digging of Pit A, at the edge of which was found a mass of sherds belonging to the grave amphora. Among the sherds were found small cups, fragments ... Late Geometric ... Among the sherds were found small cups, fragments of a skyphos, and a kantharos, together with a few remnants of a small child's skeleton. |
| Disturbed Pyre at 59/ΚΗ (ΚΖ), in the area of the Poros Building west of the Areopagus.
Against east wall of room 5 west. concentration of artifacts, ash, carbon and a few bones in stratum, no pit discerned ... 3rd c. B.C ... That is how the excavator interpreted it in the notebook, and the lamp and angular kantharos represent two-thirds of the classic pyre assemblage of the mid-3rd c. |
| Eugene Vanderpool ... Mycenaean Grave under Stoa Terrace, at original north end of Stoa; and PG vases on patches of stones over this burial, and to NE (formerly P 8:7). Cf. Q 8:13. No remains. In some records as Grave XLV ... 1 December 1953 ... One of these, to the northeast, measured about a meter across and filled out a natural depression in bedrock; on it lay a kantharos. The other, about a meter to the west and larger, was continuous with the stony filling of a "cist" grave, though to be Mycenaean, directly below. |
