Disturbed "Votive Deposit" at 27-28/ΙΖ-ΙΗ
Reddish fill in five circular cutting in bedrock, considered by the excavators to have been one deposit. Fill was disturbed in later periods, probably by construction ... 7th c. B.C, with intrusions ... Intrusions:
Red-ware; late Roman; Late Roman lamps; coarse ware, combed ware; micaceous water jugs; yellow/white glaze; lidded bowl; shallow coarse ware dish. |
Well at U/10-14/4, in Byzantine Room I.
Well is ca. 1.20m in diameter, dug into bedrock. Excavated to depth of roughly -8.00m; sides started collapsing and thus did not dig to full depth. Some stone-lining, ... June 15-16, 17-31 July 1972 ... POU, for depth of ca. 4.80m, includes many whole or nearly whole coarse water jugs (many still in tins), a little glazed pottery, including lamp fragments and much coarse ware of the 13th century A.D. |
Well in Coletti Garden.
Diameter 1m. There were no traces of hand holes in its walls. At 5.2m depth below datum on the S-E side of the shaft, a small underground stream emptied into the well. The stratigraphy ... Ca. 425-400 B.C ... Utilitarian: fragments of lekanai, cooking pots, mortars, casseroles, jugs, all varieties of fabric and glaze, brazier fragments, gray ware amphorae, and painted roof tiles. |

Well dug to 1.50m., vi/9/36; dug from 1.50m. to bottom ... Early Roman; use fillings of 2nd. c. B.C. and 1st. and 4th. c. A.D.; dumped filling of late 4th. c. (HSR)
Fill I: 2nd. c. B.C.
Fill II-V: to second half of 4th. c. A.D.
Fill VI: mixed to Byzantine ... Containers 3-1 (ca. 21.00-20.20m.) represent a new period of use and appear to contain 4th cent. pottery: the late amphora P 10030 and another similar stored in tin no. 364; micaceous water jars shaped as P 14899 (one almost complete stored in tin no. 363); jugs as P 12824; gouged ware; XXVIII lamps (L 2985-7); jug in shape of boy's head (P 10004); very little fine ware; no coins.
