[Agora Object] P 10342: Lekythos

Repaired. Rim, handle and bits of side missing. Surface damaged. Two quadrigas race(?). Charioteer to left is bearded. Vestiges of white on his dress. Dotted bands above and below. On shoulder, rays. ... 24 March 1936 ... ADDENDA The grave as a whole is mixed, from various workshops: ca. 480-460.

Part of bowl and lip. Convex lip, short upper wall, low wide bowl. Scraped groove just above foot. Decoration inside: palmettes within two incised lines. The shape, lacking the foot, is uncertain, but ... 390-380 B.C ... Clay and glaze, in the better pieces from the Olympia workshops, are often in- distinguishable from Attic and the elaborate rim profile of 650 may be compared with cup-skyphoi; the special shape is however foreign to Athens and, as noted above (loc. cit. and p. 25, note 56 at end), the high-swung handles characteristic for it, and sometimes also the decoration, do not correspond to contemporary Attic usage.
