The attribute, a ladle, resembles Pridik (1917), nos. 30, 31, pl. V, especially the former. On the former, the text (p. 41, no ... Before 183 B.C ... Not in index of the latter as Thasian ... Par: for dev, Pridik 1917, Pl V nr 30,31, especially former,
and text, p41 nr 107, where former ladle said to end in swan`s head;
hdl on our seal mostly missing*

Shape resembles Knidian.
Clay and slip approximate Rhodian.
Impression of such Rhodian aspect that the attribute at first glance is taken for a rose; framed circle; boukranion with neck. Date: the date ... Before 183 B.C ... Date: the date there given is apptly too early; see further nt 5

Fragment preserving part of mouth, handle, neck, and body. Thin, streaky brownish black glaze on inside. P.H. 0.085.
Youth (preserved to start of thighs) running to right, looking back, a spiked fillet ... Ca. 400 B.C ... He looks back at someone, who is probably seated: all that remains is the forelock with a bit of a fillet and the index finger of one hand, probably the left. |
