Two joining fragments preserve the medallion and part of the wall of a large bowl. Double rosette in medallion. From around it spring five large relief leaves (or palmettes). Between the bases of these ... May 1947 ... Between the bases of these are the roots of a vine, which, with elaborate curling tendrils and clusters in relief, rises up the vase wall from two of the four roots preserved. |
From upper part of a large krater(?). Straight vertical lip, below which there is a projecting ledge, perhaps to receive a lid? In the angle where bottom of lip and ledge meet an incised line filled with ... 14 May 1934 ... Below the lip the body swells outward as it goes down, being slightly concave in profile; it is decorated, in thinned clay paint, with an ivy vine running horizontally, shooting forth above and below alternative leaves and berry clusters. |
