| Rim fragments from a large lekanis lid; inside glazed black with narrow purple bands.
Outside, animal bands, a boar walking left, and above parts of two sirens left. Incised rosettes. Purple red added ... 16 March 1935, 1 June 1938 ... Four non-joining fragments, one of which joins the piece first found (a) at its right, adding a tiger, to r.; in front of him, part of a feline, to left.
b) In lower zone, a boar to r., followed by a tiger; in upper zone, a feline to r., approaching a panel of interlacing palmette and lotus.
c) In lower zone, a goat to r., behind a siren to r.; in the upper zone, a feline to r.
d) In the lower zone, a siren to l.
e) Rim fragment preserving part of the outermost frieze; the rear part of a feline to l. and behind it the forepart of a siren to l. |
| Several non-joining fragments give part of the broad flaring rim, and a little of the flat floor of a large Late Roman A plate with very low ring foot. Restored in plaster. Rim decorated with a frieze ... 12 May 1939 ... Rim decorated with a frieze of running animals with trees between in applied relief; preserved: three trees, a donkey, right, part of a goat, right, a stag, right, and part of a lioness or tiger, left.
Fine red clay; thin fine red glaze. |
Profile nearly complete; about one-quarter of the rim preserved. Restored in plaster. Four rows of small grooved overlapping leaves around the medallion. Figured zone: at right, a mermaid, left, blowing ... 30-31 May 1947 ... Facing her, a tiger, one forepaw raised, head turned back left. |
