For the white pilos, there is a good parallel on Tübingen S/10 1568 i = E 162, a fragmentary loutrophoros by the Kleophon Painter (ARV2 1147, 55; Addenda 335; Matheson, p. 418, cat. no. KL 62). Böhr (CVA, Tübingen 4 [Deutschland 52], p. 27) suggests that the use of white indicates a pilos made of bronze, the white presumably indicating the gleaming surface. ...
