Front of neck forms a tongue (width broken), behind which the marble has been cut away; end of tongue, smooth finished; cut back surfaces, rough-picked: arrangement for setting head on the herm (cutting for vertical dowel, horizontal pour channel).
Hair and beard stylized in way lines; braid round head; tight curls round face; locks of hair falling behind ears. ... It was discovered that the nose was broken and repaired at some time before the head was built into the modern house-wall in which it was found. |
