Found lying in the angle of the south pilaster and the marble steps to the west, on the road strosis, directly below the statue fragments S 309 (I 144), but separated from them by a rubble wall built directly over it. A tile drain has been built against the north side level with the top.

[Agora Object] S 211: Herm Head

Bearded herm head of Archaic type. Back of head broken away above, hair around brow damaged, nose and chin broken away, surface damaged. Full height preserved. Front of neck forms a tongue (width broken), ... Early 5th century B.C ... Front of neck forms a tongue (width broken), behind which the marble has been cut away; end of tongue, smooth finished; cut back surfaces, rough-picked: arrangement for setting head on the herm (cutting for vertical dowel, horizontal pour channel). Hair and beard stylized in way lines; braid round head; tight curls round face; locks of hair falling behind ears. ... It was discovered that the nose was broken and repaired at some time before the head was built into the modern house-wall in which it was found.
