In the top a narrow rectangular cutting, which looks rather like a clamp cutting than one to receive any part of a statue ... End of 5th. century B.C ... The cutting is broken at the raer; remains of lead in place.

Inscribed fragment; twice used as Ionic capital.
Originally the crowning block of a small monument or stele, on the front face the projecting moulding is preserved, and below a curved line marking the ... 2nd.-3rd. centuries A.D ... The first never got beyond the letter "Φ"; in the second the word "ΦΙΛΟΙ" was written out and enclosed in a decorative frame, but then erased except for part of the frame and the initial "Φ" most of which still remains. Finally the surface was smoothed down and the main inscription was written. ... Found in modern cellar wall, over the northeastern part of the Odeion. |
