| Title: | Statue of Child | |
| Category: | Sculpture | |
| Description: | A standing boy, the left forearm, and the legs below the knees, broken off. The right arm is carried across the chest and the hand rests on the left shoulder; the head, tilted to the left, lies on the hand, and the eyes are closed in sleep. The hair, bound by a fillet, is carved in snail-shell curls, with a braided crest down the middle. Just below the left hip a strut has been broken off, suggesting either that the statue is part of a group, or else that the boy was leaning on a support. Pentelic marble. Cf. S 887 (Χ 574). ADDENDA Published (Hesperia 7) as a Sleeping Eros. | |
