| Description: | Broken off across the neck; end of nose and chin chipped. Pick-marks on forehead. Head, half life-size, turned slightly to the figure's left. Hair and beard rendered in small tight bead-like curls. The eyes have a marked slant, the mustached lips a faint smile. The lion's scalp is worn well down over the brow; the hair covers the ears. An irregular protuberance with two holes for attachment on the left side near the back. The surfaces fresh, the marble only slightly patinated; the right side of the face less weathered than the left. Pentelic marble. Drilled and set with bronze dowel. Reset 1956. | |
