| Description: | Mended from many fragments; handles, most of one side and pieces from the other missing. Restored in plaster. Ring foot. Large reversed Σ pattern around upper part; below this, a diamond chain; around the base, curled up spirals; the decorative bands set off from each other by groups of narrow horizontal stripes; similar vertical stripes interrupt the pattern to form plain panels beneath the handles. Buff clay. Decoration, and inside, painted in dull brown glaze. For motifs, cf. Protocorinthian vases; Johansen (1923), Les vases sicyoniens, pl. XIX, 3. Early Orientalizing style. | |
