Title:   Plate Fragment with Sgraffito Decoration

Description:   Mended from many pieces; fragments missing from the floor and rim. Plate with flat floor and vertical rim and very low ring foot. A conventionalized bird in the center of the medallion and some form of conventionalized leaf in four small outer medallions; all with scraped backgrounds. Conventionalized sgraffito pattern around the center, and for two outer bands.
Red clay with white slip and colorless glaze. The incised lines are reddish brown. The exterior with only a very thin slip and glaze, applied irregularly; the clay showing through gives a pink tone.
Context:   Well.
