Title:		Red Figure Kantharos Fragments: Type A

Description:		From a kantharos(?) or kalathoid(?). Trace of handle evident, however. a) Outside lip, egg pattern; below, head of woman left, with part of a wing in front of her face. b) Part of lip. c) Part of standing draped woman, possibly from the same figure as the head. Tiny feet at the left; probably from little Eros. Relief contour for the profile. Added clay for the leaves above the fillet. d) Z 1193. Three fragments, mending to one, preserve part of the upper wall and plain rim; the shape either a very large kantharos(?) or a small rimless kalyx krater. Paris, Hermes and Hera: At right, Paris, seated on rocks beneath a tree; wearing chalmys and high-laced boots, and with his hat behind his head, a knotted stick in his hand. Hermes, who conducts Hera, wears chlamys and hat with upturned rim; Hera wears chiton himation, pointed diadem and veil; a scepter in her left hand. Below lip, a band of egg and dot. Relief contours throughout. Applied yellow for Paris' shoe-laces; for Hermes' hat straps. Leaves of tree in thinned clay with purple overlaid.
Context:		Red 5th. c. fill, martyra. B' building fills, B- fill to north. Fragment Z 1193 from Tholos Trench E, pocket in floor beneath layer III.
