| Description: | About two-thirds preserved, mended up. One side of body and opposite side of rim and upper neck missing. Low-bellied ovoid body on a hollow "raised" base, made within a molding device. Fairly thin-walled for its size. Bottom concave with knob at center. High neck, narrow at bottom, widening gently to a plain rim. Thick vertical handle with median groove, from outside of rim to shoulder; applied triangular strip on top, bearing three plus two relief knobs, part-punched. Imitation rivets on handle. At base of handle, a punched ring. Body undecorated. Brown Asia Minor ware, highly micaceous and flaky, with remains of a polished wash on exterior, fired yellow-gold where preserved. Core fired red-brown in parts. Context: early V cent. AD, about 400 AD; cf. P 34034 for context, P 11298 for type. | |
