| Description: | Foot, most of rim, parts of both handles missing. Broad, open kylix. Tondo on floor with a border of elaborate maeander squares broken occasionally by squares with crosses. Within tondo, two figures; a nude youth left, facing right, left hand at mouth, right hand holds strigil at his side, listening to a second figure at right, facing left; nude, with a cloak thrown over one shoulder and the opposite forearm, right hand raised. Apparently an athlete being instructed by his trainer. Fine drawing. Musculature and facial hair done in dilute glaze. Outside: acanthos palmettes around handle; four athletes, nude and in poses of repose, on either side. Reserved line at rim; inner part of handles reserved. Good black glaze. Attic clay. | |
