| Description: | a) Chips missing from rim. Depicted is Hermes in chlamys with winged feet and cadeusis to right with left arm resting on shoulder of youth holding cock, also to right. Head of youth turned back to Hermes and right hand clasping Hermes' wrist. b) Fragment of opposite side of a) preserved. Depicted is nude male with long hair, seen frontally. c) Fragment of lower left side of same side as b). Preserved is a piece of flying drapery and a right hand held at body. Also a vertical, possibly a staff; underside preserved. Black glaze, red figure. Orange clay. Addenda July 2024: d) added from Lot ΒΓ 360. Joins with fragment b) near bottom edge, but not mended. Preserves the foot and ankle of the right figure, shin left figure, and a curved object. Underside reserved but finely finished. e) added from Lot ΒΓ 358. Edge of the disk but does not join c). On black-glaze field: top of the striped scepter with finial. Underside reserved with a light groove near edge; otherwise finely finished. Side A [missing since 1974]: Hermes and Ganymede; Side B: probably Zeus and Ganymede. The curved object may be a hoop. ADDENDA Penthesilea Painter (JRG). | |
