Title:   Black Glaze Bowl: Stamped

Description:   Mended from four fragments. Much of rim, wall and base missing; completely restored in plaster. Large flat-bottomed bowl with steep wall. At middle of floor four stamped palmettes, surrounded by a circle of close-set palmettes and outside this widely spaced palmettes. Underside banded in black.
Metallic black glaze; reddish clay.
Notes:   Backfill of demolition of Great Monument beneath Middle Stoa.
Context:   Cross cut between piers 1 and 2, soft pit below layer II of south aisle (= fill of early Great Drain).
