| Description: | Preserved only to spring of neck; handles and large fragments of wall missing, including the upper part of the shoulder panel on one side. Shape, type II a (R-M). Tongue pattern on foot; double series of rays around lower wall; wall panels bounded above by band of tongue pattern, below by band of "open maeander"; to either side by elaborate floral motive set below handle. Each panel occupied by a pair of horse protomes facing in and crossing forelegs. In field of panel are groups of zigzag lines, swastikas and a group of four dots. Thin black glaze. Purple paint (fugitive) for forelocks of horses and for a triangular area toward front of neck, for heart of palmette in floral ornament and for a band at top of panels. Incision for details of horses' heads. | |
