| Description: | Intact. Flat bottom and straight side wall; upward sloping shoulder, ribbed; narrow neck with plain slightly flaring lip; ridged vertical handle, base of neck to edge of shoulder. Mould-made in two pieces, vertically. Relief scene on front and back, the scenes separated by Ionic columns. On front, Herakles wrestling with the Keryneian stag; his lion's skin and club hang behind. A tree in front. On the back, Herakles wearing the lion's skin as a cloak knotted around his neck and flaying out behind him, shoots with bow and arrow at the Stymphalian birds. Two have fallen, and a third, pierced by an arrow, drops through the air. Pinkish clay; the dull red glaze has largely disappeared. | |
