| Description: | Mended from many fragments. Foot and several fragments of walls restored; rim nearly intact. The scenes on either side are alike: Herakles and a companion are lying with their right legs drawn up and their left knees doubled under them. Both hold cornucopiae and Herakles has his club. Above them hang bow and quiver with strap and, caught in the branch of the vine-trunk, Herakles' sword and a traveling hat. Below either handle, a heron with spread wings to right. White for wreaths of banqueters, conucopiae, cushions, waterbirds, ends of quiver straps, sword belt and possibly sheath, decoration of bow, berries on ivy. Red for beards, tops of quivers, dots on drapery, hat. Good black glaze on interior. Reserved inner edge of rim. Cf. P 1543. | |
