Kantharos?

Single fragment preserving parts of upper and lower body and half of one handle.

Convex lower body, slightly concave upper body, with scraped groove where they meet. Delicate recurved handle, round in section, at top of upper body. Decoration in white paint: wavy line punctuated with dots on upper body; vertical lines in imitation of ribs on lower body.

Micaceous fabric, mottled reddish yellow to red (5YR 6/6--2.5YR 6/6); shiny black glaze outside, shiny red inside.

The fabric is slightly redder than normal for Attic and the shape has no parallels in the Attic repertoire. For other pieces with contrasting glaze inside and outside see 1671, 1672 and 1681. For motif see 1272 and 1693.
